Jane sat with her legs crossed and feet up on the coffee table in the pit. It was one of those rare nights when she had the pit all to herself. Vishous and Butch were both out on patrol, and Marissa was at Safe Place doing intakes. Jane had taken a long soak in the tub and put on one of V's t-shirts, a pair of his socks, and a pair of his barely used boxer shorts. He never wore them, and only kept them so Jane would have something to borrow, or he could throw something on in a hurry in an emergency if someone came to their bedroom door.
She took a sip of her cocoa and made a face, unless Vishous made it, it just didn't taste as good. Oh, she made it the same as he did, at least she was pretty sure she did. Whole milk, sugar and Hershey's cocoa. heated just til the bubbles started so it didn't scald. But it never quite tasted the way he made it. He told her it was because he added love to the mix. She had actually been surprised at the time when he'd made the comment. Vishous often said he spoke 16 languages and couldn't find the words to express himself. She thought he did just fine when he wanted to.

She flipped the page of the New England Journal of Medicine and smiled, there was an article on genetics that she'd been dying to read that was published by a colleague of hers. If they could only see the genetics material she had on hand, that would be an eye opener. Cigarette smokers would have a field day, they could smoke like felons without worrying about cancer threats. It was amazing what vampires could get away with. She pulled her bag up from down by her feet and pulled her notebook out that held some of her genetics notes in them.
She flipped through the book and became concerned, some of the beginning pages were missing. And while she knew that she'd placed all of her notes on encrypted files on her computer, there was no way she would have just ripped pages out of her own notebook. Nor would have V. The only other people that would have been in her office would have been Manny, Selena, but Jane had her case in her lap and Selena would never touch anything, and...the Directx's. No, but why would they have taken her work? Maybe She ripped them out and...She picked up the phone and called Manny.

Jane cleaned out her messenger bag, but there was no trace of the missing pages there. The phone finally connected and Manny answered at the clinic.
"Hey Whitcomb! Miss me already?"
Jane rolled her eyes at the phone. "My name isn't Whitcomb anymore Manny, and I had a question for you? You wouldn't have by any chance, borrowed or seen any pages out of my genetics notebooks would you have?" She nibbled on her bottom lip, she heard him tapping his pen on the edge of the desk, a nervous habit he had when he was thinking.
"Ahh, nope. You know genetics is your baby, not mine. Maybe the goateed fucker used them to roll himself a fattie." She heard him chuckle.
She groaned. "A fattie? You're showing your age for one thing Manny, I think they call them blunts now, and number two? Vishous doesn't smoke dope and wouldn't use my notes for rolling paper wise ass. And if he hears that you are using that nick name again, he's going to kick your ass from here to Fenway park and back. Anyway, the only other people in my office were those Directrix people. Otherwise, my books are in my case, locked in the closet. Because when they left, my case was on the chair. I just don't see what possible use they could have for them."
Manny cleared his throat. "Good question, maybe they just wanted to screw with you Jane. You have your notes backed up, and anyway, you can't really do much of anything with them anyway. Listen, I have a couple of brothers incoming. Looks like Zsadist took a dagger to the arm. And no, I can handle it, keep your ass parked. I can already see you trying to get up to come here. There are only 2 of them. Night Jane."
Manny hung up and she chuckled. She was half way off the couch. She went back to reading her NEJM and decided to talk to V about the missing pages....later.
