Mary blinked her eyes open and tried to sit up. She found out that she couldn't. She felt disoriented and dizzy. She felt confused and desperate. She felt too much and nothing at all.
She moved her head -which seemed to be the only thing she could move- and let her gaze roam around the room. There wasn't much she could see. There was no color, just white surrounding her from every angle. White, white and more white. To her, that color would always mean death.
She looked down at her body and gasped in horror. Her skin was pale and bruised and in her arms were numerous IV's and other tubes. Her skin was pale and bruised.
She couldn't breath, she was suffocating in her own fear, and it was right then that she knew it.
Cancer... was back.
And this time? This time there would be no escape.

Gasping, she woke up from the nightmare. She didn't scream, she never did, she never would. She touched a spot of her skin where the scalpel had sliced her tissue during surgery. One of the many she had gone through.
She was sweating and as her fingers brushed her cheeks, she realized she was also crying. Her body shook with her sobs. Rhage's arms reached out to hold her but she pushed him away. She was dirty. She couldn't let him touch her. She was stained with disease. She knew it. Whatever it was the Scribe Virgin had done, it wasn't working anymore. She felt like she was drowning, her body felt weak as sickness moved through her. She was going to die.
"Shellan?" There was concern in his voice, a need to protect and comfort rooted deep in his soul.
She shook her head and pushed him away again. "No... No... Just... stay away from me. Stay away..."
She jumped out of the bed, didn't even take the time to put on her robe. She went to the bathroom and locked herself inside. Alone...she needed to be alone, just like always. She was use to being alone..and she'll die that way.
