The clinic was quiet and Jane sat at her desk, trying to concentrate on her paperwork. She'd had a lot on her mind the past couple of days, and was having a sort of existential crisis. Vishous was at the point where he needed to feed, and he'd been putting it off. A vampire his age needed to feed every 7 to 8 weeks and he was pushing 9. He hated having to feed from the chosen, and despite the fact it was Selena and he liked her as a person, he still balked at having to feed from her. Jane felt bad that Selena had to put up with warriors that fed from her based on need Vs being a Shellan and feeding a mate. Though Selena always said she was honored to do it. Maybe, just maybe if Trez got his head out of his ass....
Jane sometimes wondered if Vishous didn't somehow wish for a vampire for a mate, lord knew it would have made things so much easier on him. He could feed from someone he loved, he most especially would have someone who knew their culture much better than she did.And then there were children, she couldn't give him one. She let out a sigh, then started back doing her paper work when she was interrupted.
"Jane, get those thoughts out of your head and don't ever think like that again!" Vishous stood in the doorway to her office, and he didn't look happy. He walked in and pulled up a chair, then moved Jane's chair to face him. "Leelan, I have who I want, exactly who I want. I don't want a chosen, nor do I want some stuck up Glymera Vamp. You know, you always tell me you know who you mated true? Well, so do I. Yes, having to feed from a chosen or any other female is repugnant to me, but only because it's not you. That takes up ten minutes every 8 weeks or so, then it's done, other than that, the rest of it is all good." He put his hands on either side of her face and looked into her eyes. "We have had the young discussion before, I've always maintained that I didn't want them, and that I'd make a lousy father despite what you say. That hasn't changed, never will true. if for some reason that ever changed, and I guarentee you it won't unless you want one, we could always adopt or something. So, get it through that brilliant head of yours, I love you just the way you are."
Jane's chin wobbled a bit as she launched herself at Vishous. "I'm sorry, I really am. Sometimes I just think that I don't deserve you." Vishous hugged her back, kissing the top of her head. "Of course you do. Fuck babe, most of the time I feel like I don't deserve you, so let's just say we both deserve one another. Now, lock up and come back to the pit with me. Let me show you how much I deserve you." He kissed her passionately on the lips then helped her lock up. They went back to the pit with a little detour to the manse kitchen for some supplies.
